Another Masters Tournament has come and gone, but the sportsbook golf betting odds to win the 2017 U.S. Open seem to have been for the most part unaffected by the admittedly unexpected outcome at Augusta National Golf Club. People who bet on golf still favor World No. 1 Dustin Johnson to successfully defend at Erin Hills the title he won last year at Oakmont Country Club.

Golf Betting odds on Rory McIlroy +805

Wee Mac finished the Masters tied for 7th place for his fourth consecutive top 10 finish at Augusta. The Irishman started the final day tied for 11th and a birdie on the par-five 8th put him into red figures on one under par, but that was seven off the pace set by eventual winner Sergio Garcia. Nonetheless, McIlroy still had a chance to complete the career grand slam as long as he managed to at least match his lowest Masters score. Unfortunately for McIlroy, he three-putted the fourth from 95 feet and had to struggle to make par on the following two holes.

Justin Rose +1625

Unlike the Irish golfer, the Brit was able to keep up with Garcia until the very end. As matter of fact both Rose and the Spaniard completed the 72 holes in nine-under-par, which led to a sudden death playoff round at the par-4 18th. Rose’s drive hit the trees and he was forced to chip out. He ended 14 feet away for par and missed the putt.

Dustin Johnson +705

DJ remains the golf betting favourite to win the US Open even though he had to pull out of the Masters after he fell down a staircase the day before the tournament. Doesn’t anyone else find that suspicious? Would fans who bet on golf be surprised if they had found an Under Armour glove near the scene of the “accident?” And when Jordan Spieth tried it on and it was too tight for him, Johnnie Cochran could be somehow heard saying, “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” Oh right, the Open. Johnson has had a veritable Annus mirabilis since winning the 2016 United States Open Championship, and is poised to win the tournament back-to-back; a strange occurrence in and of itself – in fact, the last golfer to achieve that feat was precisely Curtis Strange in 1988-89.

Jordan Spieth +1025

Spieth entered the Masters as the golf betting favorite following Johnson’s very convenient staircase incident. However, the University of Texas dropout failed to capitalize on DJ’s absence finished tied for 11th – which was actually his worst finish in Augusta after placing second in 2014 and 2016 and earning the coveted green jacket in 2015. This year, Spieth opened with a 3-over 75, including a quadruple-bogey 9 on the par-5 15th hole. He bounced back with 69-68 the next two day and was only two shots off the lead heading entering the final round, but he shot 75 on Sunday and found water on the 12th hole for the second straight year. So he may still have second career in dousing, if this golf thing ends up not working out.
