Sportsbook Tiger Taking a Break from Golf and fans not happy. Sportsbook odds are not expected to include Tiger Woods for some time to come as the superstar golfer is taking an indefinite leave from golf. Woods announced on Friday that he will not be playing in any tournaments for the foreseeable future. His absence is huge and affects golf odds at the offshore sportsbook.
Sportsbook lines always favor Woods when he is entered in an event so now the odds will be more wide open. No only are golf odds at the sportsbook being affected, commercials you see are going to be affected as well. Accenture has announced they are ending their sponsorship of Woods. Gillette has said that they will not feature Woods in any of their ads for the short-term future.
Woods is taking a leave from golf to supposedly work on his marriage after the recent allegations of Woods having affairs with multiple women. Some sportsbook reports have his wife filing for divorce after the holidays so it remains to be seen what will ultimately happen. What is clear though is that Woods will not be making any appearances at golf tournaments in the near future and there will be no odds on him at the offshore sportsbook.
Woods may not even be back for the Masters which would make a huge impact in golf odds at the sportsbook. Sandy Lyle, who won the Masters in 1988 as sportsbook results showed, said that Woods might not even be back before July. “It’s wise for him to stop playing for the time being. There is not much going on for the next month or so, there is a rest period,” Lyle said to BBC Radio. Lyle does believe that going for Jack Nicklaus’ majors records might motivate Woods to return. “He might just walk away from the game. He is a wealthy man and does not really need to play golf but he has some fantastic goals. He wants to win more majors than Jack Nicklaus.” Lyle said.
There are many unknowns regarding this situation as offshore sportsbook info shows. It is unclear when or if Woods will return and there is no way to predict how Woods will do against the sportsbook odds when he does return. His absence is huge for the PGA Tour since events that Woods enters are far more popular at the offshore sportsbook than those he does not. “Indefinite is a scary word,” said Geoff Ogilvy, “If Tiger Woods indefinitely doesn’t play golf, that’s not good for us.”
