Cavaliers could be Undervalued in NBA Sports Betting

Cavaliers could be Undervalued in NBA Sports Betting. The most undervalued team in NBA sports betting next season might be the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team lost LeBron James to the Miami Heat and not many people will want to bet on the Cavaliers. That should make them a valuable team vs. the sports betting online NBA odds in 2010-2011.

Sports betting odds on the Cavaliers this past season had them overvalued and Cleveland had a losing record against the spread.  The Cavaliers won’t win as many games next year as they did this past season but they could be more profitable for bettors.  They won’t have LeBron James but they will have new head coach in Byron Scott and a new philosophy of playing fast-paced basketball.

Cleveland is not without talent. They still have Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams and Anderson Varejao and they have a talented young player in J.J. Hickson who really should flourish with Scott as head coach.  Under Scott, the Cavaliers are going to run a lot.  That should mean high scoring games that are exciting. Cleveland has had LeBron James for many seasons but they have never been a team that runs up and down the court.  And last year they were not a profitable team for bettors. That could change in 2010-2011. The Cavaliers were 9th in the league last season in points per game and that number might not go down if Scott goes with a run and gun style. Cleveland was 6th on defense last season and that number will almost assuredly not be as good next season.

What is sometimes forgotten in sports betting is that the bottom line is covering the spread.  There is no question that Miami will win a lot of games with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.  There is also no doubt that Cleveland won’t win 61 games as they did last season.  What may happen though is that Cleveland covers the spread more than just the 38 times they did in 2010 and it could be that Miami has a losing record against the point spread as well.  The Cavaliers were 38-43-1 last season vs. the NBA odds including a poor 16-25 at home. Miami was 42-39-1 last season vs. the number but just 18-22-1 at home.
