Giants Big Underdogs in Super Bowl Odds

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

Super Bowl odds have the New York Giants as nearly two touchdown underdogs against the New England Patriots.

Most experts believe that the Patriots will complete their perfect season, but covering the big Super Bowl odds might prove difficult.

Super Bowl odds have actually come down as New England opened a 13.5 point favorite and is down to -12 on the Super Bowl odds board.  The key for New York in Super Bowl XLII could be the play of Eli Manning.  He has thrown four touchdowns and no interceptions the last three games as the Giants have won and covered each game.  He also played well in the regular season finale against the Patriots as New York lost 38-35.  Manning threw four touchdowns in that defeat.

Looking at Super Bowl betting odds it is easy to see why bettors are playing the underdog Giants.  Favorites are only 2-8 against the spread in the playoffs and New England has covered only two of their last 10 games.  The Patriots are heavy favorites in Super Bowl odds because they are trying to make NFL history and complete a perfect season.  If they win they will wear the crown of the best NFL team in history, surpassing the 1972 Dolphins who also went undefeated but did not play as many games since the regular season was only 14 games. If the Patriots win and cover Super Bowl odds they would also be thought of as a dynasty with four Super Bowl wins in seven years.

Super Bowl odds should be heavily bet this year.  The Super Bowl betting matchup is a good one for bettors and for television. FOX television is very happy with the Super Bowl XLII matchup. Remember it was just a month ago that the Patriots-Giants game was the most watched television show of the entire fall TV season. It averaged 34.5 million viewers and was the most popular NFL regular-season game since 1995.

The last time the Giants were big underdogs in Super Bowl odds was in 2001 then they were blown out by the Baltimore Ravens.  Since that time Super Bowl betting favorites have gone 3-3 in Super Bowl odds.  Super Bowl betting this year should set records with a huge amount of money being wagered on side, total, moneyline and proposition Super Bowl betting lines.  Take a look at the Super Bowl odds and enjoy the big game.
