Spain Wins 1-0 over Portugal in 2010 World Cup Betting

Spain moved into the quarterfinals on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Portugal in 2010 World Cup betting.

David Villa scored the only goal of the match as Spain won as the favorite in World Cup odds. The teams played to an even first half but Spain dominated the second half and Villa finally broke through the Portugal defense to give Spain the only goal of the match.

2010 World Cup betting favored Spain against Portugal and in the second half it was easy to see why. Spain completely dominated Portugal in the second half and if not for goalkeeper Eduardo the 1-0 score easily could have been a lot worse.  Villa scored in the 63rd minute as he took a pass from Xavi Hernandez that he put on goal.  Eduardo made the first save but Villa followed up his shot and put it off the underside of the crossbar to give Spain the lead.  It was the fourth goal of the World Cup for Villa who is now tied for the World Cup goal scoring lead.  This match was the 33rd time that Spain and Portugal have met but the first time in the World Cup.  Spain has now won 16 of those matches compared to just five wins for Portugal.

Spain dominated the first part of the match as Eduardo had to make three saves just to keep Portugal in the game.  Portugal seemed to get their footing and for much of the rest of the first half they actually outplayed Spain but they couldn’t get a goal.  Once the second half began it was all Spain. They completely dominated Portugal in every aspect of the match. Spain moved the ball around and if not for Eduardo the game would have already been over.  Villa finally broke through though and the one goal was enough against a punch-less Portugal team and overrated Cristiano Ronaldo.  Throughout the game there was very little offensive flow for Portugal and Ronaldo did nothing yet again. Before the World Cup began it was thought that big name scorers like Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney would make their mark but the quarterfinals are now here and Rooney and Ronaldo are not.

Spain will now face Paraguay in the quarterfinals on Saturday and Spain is heavily favored to win that match and advance to the semifinals.
