Awesome Gem a Threat in Breeders Cup Betting in the Marathon

November 30th, 2010 Breeders Cup Betting

You want to take a serious look at Awesome Gem on Friday in the first race in Breeders Cup betting.

The Marathon is the first race of this year’s Breeders Cup and Awesome Gem should be a contender in Breeders Cup odds.

Awesome Gem
You have probably seen this horse a number of times. He is 7 years old and has had 38 races in his career.  He is the son of 1998 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Awesome Again.  The horse was expected to go in the Dirt Mile but jockey David Flores believes the horse can run the mile and three quarters and also stay out of trouble. This horse has been one that seems to find trouble but going this distance he should be able to stay well clear of the other horses. What also helps Awesome Gem is that the field in the Marathon is going to be much weaker than what he would face in the Dirt Mile.

Prince Will I Am
One of the horses that might be in contention in the Marathon is Prince Will I Am.   Trainer Michelle Nihei is hoping that Prince Will I Am can handle the distance. The horse does have a win at a mile and three-eighths so distance might not be a problem. The connections for the horse considered the Turf but decided on the Marathon.

Other Contenders
There are other horses who could make a mark in this race. A.U. Miner has been a horse that has won in the past. Eldaafer qualified for this race as did Temple City. Bright Horizon could be another one to watch in Breeders Cup odds out of the O’Brien stable.
