Baltimore won 7 of their first 8 games under Showalter. Gamblers are now taking a serious look at Baltimore vs. the Internet betting odds.
Online betting odds only favored the Orioles in only one of those eight games. The Orioles were 32-73 before Showalter took over but now they are a team to be reckoned with. The Orioles went 6-1 at home with Showalter and they started their road trip with a big win over the Cleveland Indians. The Orioles have been getting good pitching and their hitting has really come around. They were 29-for-70 with runners in scoring position under Showalter in their first eight games.
The Orioles did very well on their home stand with Showalter at the helm as they swept the Angels and then took three of four from the Chicago White Sox. It will now be interesting to see how Baltimore does on the road. They won the first game at Cleveland by a score of 14-8. That was the first game of a six-game road trip for the Orioles. After playing the Indians, the Orioles will play a weekend series in Tampa Bay. Winning at Tampa won’t be easy but the Orioles are playing so well that they could find a way to win a game or two in Tampa.
The Orioles have been underdogs a lot this season vs. the Internet betting odds. That will change next week when the Orioles host the Seattle Mariners. After the Mariners, the Orioles will host the Texas Rangers. Baltimore should be favored at home against Seattle but they will likely be underdogs against Texas in that four-game series.
If you just look at the statistics you wouldn’t want to bet on the Orioles as they are near the bottom of the league in hitting and in pitching. Since Showalter has taken over though, the Orioles have been vastly improved in both hitting and ERA. When looking at Baltimore games it is important to ignore the overall stats and look at what the team has done since Showalter took over.
