Hockey Betting Favors Penguins

Hockey betting favors the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins to repeat as champs this year. Those that bet on hockey will notice that Pittsburgh is still getting a lot of respect in hockey.  The Penguins do not have the best record in hockey but they do have the lowest hockey betting odds.

Hockey has the Penguins as the 5-1 favorite to win the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup.  San Jose is the second choice at 7-1 in hockey odds. The Sharks have the best record in the NHL heading into the end of the year and could be a good choice for those that bet on hockey.  The problem with betting the Sharks when you bet on hockey is that the team usually chokes in the playoffs.  Perhaps this is finally the season that the Sharks break through and make the Stanley Cup Final.

Also with hockey odds of less than 10-1 are the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals. The Capitals look very strong again this season and they have played well even when Alex Ovechkin was hurt. The Penguins had issues as well when Evgeni Malkin was out of the lineup. You may remember that Malkin won the MVP award last season and is a major factor in hockey betting.

There are some interesting hockey longshots.   Keep in mind that a team with hockey betting odds of more than 20-1 is not getting a lot of respect so a team in the range of 10-1 to 20-1 in hockey betting is a team to consider as you bet on hockey.  Boston is one of those teams at 18-1 in hockey betting. Calgary is another one of those teams at 15-1 in hockey odds. Philadelphia is 12-1 while Vancouver is 18-1.  Colorado and New Jersey could perhaps be put into the longshot category since both have teams that have looked capable of making some noise in hockey betting during the 2009-2010 season.  The Avalanche started off as one of the hottest teams in hockey but have since cooled off while the Devils were winning a lot of road games early in the season.

As you look to bet on hockey futures you would prefer to get a team with some value and that usually means taking double-digit odds.  There are definitely some interesting teams to consider as you look at hockey futures.
