Arizona Cardinals 2009 Football Odds

Football odds on the Arizona Cardinals are likely to be a little bit lower in 2009 since the Cardinals are coming off a Super Bowl appearance.

It was a magical year for Arizona in 2008 and they have all the pieces in place to make another run in 2009.

Football odds saw the Cardinals go 9-7 straight up and 9-7 against the pointspread last year. In a weak NFC West that was good enough to easily win the division. The Cardinals were able to play well in the playoffs before losing to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl. Ken Whisenhunt begins his third year at the helm of the Cardinals and has basically the same team he had a year ago. The team added cornerback Bryant McFadden, tight end Anthony Becht and safety Keith Lewis. They lost defensive end Antonio Smith, linebacker Monty Beisel, cornerback Rod Hood and running back Edgerrin James. They drafted Chris Wells in the first round as sports betting information shows and he is expected to compete with Tim Hightower for the starting running back job.

Arizona’s offense last year was excellent as they were 4th in total yards and third in points scored as football odds stats show. Kurt Warner had a superb season as did wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston. It was a good thing the offense was great because the defense, until the playoffs, was poor. The Cardinals were 28th in points allowed during the regular season as football odds stats show. Somehow everything came together for the defense in the playoffs but there are still problems on the defensive side of the ball. Adrian Wilson, Antrel Rolle and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie were excellent in the playoffs but they need to play better during the regular season as do linebacker Karlos Dansby and defensive end Chike Okeafor.

The Cardinals play in the NFC West which on paper looks weak in football odds but Seattle will be better than they were a year ago and San Francisco is also getting better. The Cardinals may not waltz to a division title like they did in 2008 as football odds stats show. The Seahawks are not going to go 4-12 again and San Francisco is capable of having a winning season. The Cardinals had better not have a Super Bowl letdown or they could find themselves missing the playoffs in 2009 and struggling against the football odds at the sportsbook.
