Make Music for Me Belmont Stakes Odds

November 30th, 2010 Belmont Stakes Betting

One of the long shots in Belmont Stakes odds will be Kentucky Derby fourth place finisher Make Music for Me.

The horse will be one of 10 contenders in Belmont Stakes betting on Saturday, June 5th.

Belmont Stakes odds will list Make Music for me at double digits.  The likely favorite in the race is Kentucky Derby second place finisher Ice Box.  Make Music for Me will need to improve if he is to be a factor in Belmont Stakes betting.  He worked recently at Belmont Park, going a mile in 1:43.65 with trainer Alexis Barba watching.  The workout was the third one for Make Music for me since the Derby.  He breezed a half-mile in: 48 3/5 on May 10th and he went five furlongs in 1:03 1/5 on May 16th.  Both of those workouts were at Keeneland.

Make Music for Me is owned by Peter and Ellen Johnson. He was ridden by Joel Rosario in the Kentucky Derby.  He has just one win in nine starts but he did place in the Del Mar Futurity and the Cash Call Futurity last year. He didn’t win his first race until earlier this year. That victory was a one-length victory in the Pasadena Stakes at Santa Anita.  The horse has shown some ability as he was less than a length back of Lookin at Lucky in the Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar last August. He ran behind Lookin at Lucky in the Cash Call Futurity as well.  Make Music for Me was never a factor in the Blue Grass Stakes as he finished sixth.

Make Music for Me is trained by Alexis Barba.  She has not had much success on her own but she does train Alphie’s Bet, who won the Swaps Stakes this year. Jockey Joel Rosario has had a lot of success in Southern California recently as he won the Del Mar and Hollywood riding titles in 2009. He won the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita aboard Dancing in Silks.

It is looking like a field of 10 in Belmont Stakes odds.  All of the jockey assignments are in except the one for Spangled Star. He is expected to be ridden by either Cornelio Velasquez or Edgar Prado.  One of the big name jockeys in Belmont Stakes odds will be Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith who will ride Drosselmeyer in place of Kent Desormeaux. Smith is 0 for 12 in the Belmont in his career.
