F1 Betting Preview: Team McLaren Looking To Get Back On Top In 2011

The 2010 F1 betting season was one of the most exciting in memory. Over the past 5 years the world of Formula One has become increasingly competitive and the days of one team dominating the field for years on end seem to have come to an abrupt halt thanks to several rule changes imposed by the governing body over the past few seasons.

Last season Team Red Bull emerged from seemingly nowhere to win the Driver’s Cup behind young Sebastian Vettel and utterly dominate the Constructors Cup competition.  Vettel finished atop the Drivers Table in 2010 with 256 points and his fellow driver Mark Webber from Australia finished third in the table to beat the out team McLaren for the Constructors Cup by 44 points (498 to 454).

McLaren actually led both the driver and team competitions for much of the year but ultimately fell short down the stretch.  Lewis Hamilton finished the season in 4th place in the driver standings with 240 points and Jensen Button finished 5th with 214 points.

One thing you can be sure of, is that these two former world champions are not going to roll over and you can expect this team to come charging out of the blocks in the 2011 odds competition.

In 2010 this team got off to a roaring start and looked to have the major trophies wrapped up at the midway point of last year’s F1 betting competition.  But the second half didn’t go quite as smoothly and both Red Bull drivers and Ferrari driver and former F1 betting world champ, Fernando Alonso, were able to overtake the McLaren drivers in the standings.

Button won 2 of the first 4 races in 2010 and the drivers combined to win 4 of the first 8 races of the season.  The team had an especially good stretch from the Turkish Grand Prix through the race in Germany when neither driver finished worse than 4th place in 5 straight races with a combined 2 victories and 4 2nd place finishes between the drivers during that 5-race stretch.

But, alas, it didn’t last as the two drivers managed just one more win between for the rest of the season (Hamilton’s win in Belgium). Looking forward to the 2011 F1 odds season it’s hard to think that these two former world champs should make an impressive showing after such a disappointing finish to last season.
