Understanding the Odds as you Bet on UFC

January 13th, 2021 UFC Betting

Bet on UFC odds are pretty easy to understand but to win when betting UFC you need to know why the line was made the way it was.

You need to know where the value is and what side the public is likely to take. Bet on UFC and you will see a lot of big favorites. Sometimes these fighters win as big favorites while other times they do not. It is important as you bet on UFC to know how the line was set on the fight.

What the oddsmaker wants to do with UFC odds is the same thing he wants to do with other types of sports betting odds. He wants equal action on the fight. Or he wants to make the public pay a higher price than they should on the favorite. That is what you must understand when you bet on UFC fights.

Does that mean you can always go against the public and win when you bet on UFC? The answer is no. Sometimes the public is right when betting UFC. In the long run the public is not going to win when they bet on UFC but that doesn’t mean they can’t win an individual fight, a whole fight card or even many fight cards.

When you bet on UFC you should be aware that some fights get a lot more publicity than others. For example, on a main UFC fight card you will usually have a total of 11 fights when you bet on UFC. Only five of those fights are going to be televised though and it is those five that get most of the attention from those betting UFC.

These five fights are going to be heavily bet by the public while the six fights on the undercard are going to get a lot less attention from those that bet on UFC. What does this mean? It means the five pay-per-view fights are going to be tilted towards the favorites. The oddsmaker is going to figure the public will be the favorite when betting UFC so the odds are going to be higher than normal. That means there is some value with the underdog. That doesn’t mean they will win but it does mean their prices will be attractive. The undercard does not have that type of underdog appeal because the odds are more two-way.

When you bet on UFC fights keep in mind the prevailing tendency of the public to bet marquee fights and ignore the undercard. You may find some value by keeping that in mind as you bet on UFC.
