UFC 97 Betting: Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio Rua at SBG Global

January 25th, 2021 UFC Betting

UFC 97 betting enthusiasts need no introduction for old man Chuck Liddell. Liddell is a living legend and one of the biggest names in MMA but he’s not getting any younger and he won’t have his work cut out for him in the UFC  betting odds.

Mauricio Rua, his UFC 97 betting opponent is one tough cookie and by all accounts the better fighter in this UFC  odds match up. At 39 years old Liddell’s best fighting days are behind him and this bout in the UFC betting line up seems more of a favor from Dana White for a storied career rather than a serious match.

UFC betting odds gurus would have a tough time making Liddell the favorite in this match up. As great as his career has been, you simply can’t handicap this UFC 97 betting odds match on past accomplishments, especially not against an opponent as talented as Rua. Rua is a fresh face to the UFC odds having fought just two previous UFC bouts and despite a rookie loss to Forest Griffin he’s proven that he was what it takes to compete in the UFC 97 betting competition. His last bout was surgeon like TKO of Mark Coleman in the third round and he’ll be much more experienced fighter in his third professional UFC bout in the UFC betting.

Rua is a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Muay-Thai disciple who is a terrific ground fighter and striker with no real weaknesses. That’s a tough order on the Liddell’s UFC 97 betting plate and it’s difficult to think he’ll get through the Brazilian. A quick glance at Liddell’s most recent fights leading up to the UFC betting will reveal an ugly trend. The former champ has won just one of his past four fights in the run up to the UFC odds.

True, these beatings came at the hands of some of the top fighters in the world (Rashad Evans, Keith Jardine and Quentin Jackson), but it still doesn’t bode well for his UFC betting hopes. By all indications it would seem that Liddell’s appearance in the UFC 97 betting competition could be his last major UFC fight. That is, of course, unless he wins in which case he lives to fight another day.

And if there is any man you don’t want to count out in the UFC betting, it’s Liddell, arguably one of the toughest humans alive. But in the end toughness cannot defeat young, quicker and stronger. Rua should win this UFC  betting match up and put himself in serious contender discussion. As for Liddell, the UFC  betting event could be his swan song.
