Tiger Woods to Announce his Plans on Friday

Sportsbook interest should be high on Friday morning when Tiger Woods ends his silence and announces his future plans. Golf simply is not as popular at the Internet sportsbook without Tiger so his return would be a boost to many people around the world including those that wager on the tournaments each week.

Sportsbook has seen Tiger as a favorite in every golf tournament he has entered in recent years.  He continually dominates the betting at the Internet sportsbook.  Whether or not he returns for this season is huge news at the sportsbook.  Tiger will not be holding a press conference on Friday but making a statement. He is not going to take any questions. “This is not a press conference,” Tiger’s agent Mark Steinberg.

The timing of Tiger’s announcement also seems a little staged.  The Accenture Match Play Championship is being held this sportsbook week and Tiger will be making his announcement on Friday, the second day of play in that tournament.  Accenture dropped sponsorship of Woods after his sex scandal erupted.  It appears Woods is now paying them back as the timing of his announcement during the Accenture tournament is going to steal the spotlight away from the Match Play event.

Woods has not been seen at all since crashing his SUV outside his home in late November.  That incident was followed by reports about Tiger’s extramarital affairs. Woods said on his website that he apologized for his behavior.  It has also been reported recently that he spent time in a sex clinic in Mississippi.

Sportsbook had Tiger and his agent releasing a statement about Friday’s activities.  The announcement said that Tiger would “be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates” Friday at 11 a.m. at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach. “Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future and he intends to apologize for his behavior,” the announcement said.

Sportsbook stats have Woods winning 71 times on the PGA Tour. He has 14 major titles and would be the Internet sportsbook favorite in the upcoming Masters in April.  Woods did not win a major title a year ago in golf odds at the sportsbook but many of the courses for this year’s four majors are among his favorites so his Internet sportsbook chances of winning another major title would be good.
