Texans Extend Head Coach Gary Kubiak

Sportsbook had the Houston Texans finishing with a 9-7 record this past season. It was an up and down season for the Texans as they failed to make the playoffs but head coach Gary Kubiak has been rewarded with a contract extension.  The Texans were fun to watch but they did not always cover the spread at the Internet sportsbook.

Sportsbook had the Texans passing the ball a lot this past season as quarterback Matt Schaub led the NFL in passing yards.  His head coach Gary Kubiak is known for offense and owner Bob McNair believes that Kubiak can lead the Texans to a Super Bowl someday. “We have a foundation in place,” McNair said. “We don’t have to go out and establish the foundation, which is what we’ve been doing the last eight years. We’ve got some outstanding players, and we just have to keep building on that. In evaluating where we were and looking at our coaching situation, I believe Gary can take us to the Super Bowl.”

The sportsbook stats may not be in McNair’s favor. Kubiak is just 31-33 in four years with Houston.  They have still never made the playoffs. “Bob has taken a hard look at where we were four years ago and where we are today and with that made the decision that we’re heading in the right direction,” Kubiak said. “I want to finish what I started. We still have a long way to go, but I’m enjoying the work, I’m enjoying the challenge.”

Whether or not Kubiak is the right man for the job is up for debate but there was no question that Houston was fun to watch at the sportsbook. The Texans scored a lot of points and they were excited at the Internet sportsbook.  The Texans ranked fourth in total offense last season at 383 yards per game as sportsbook stats showed.  Internet sportsbook had the Texans losing assistant head coach Alex Gibbs who went to Seattle and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan who went to Washington.

Sportsbook had Denver hiring offensive coordinator Rick Dennison to replace Shanahan. The new quarterback coach will be former Atlanta offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. Internet sportsbook had Schaub working with Knapp for three years when he was with Atlanta. “We have strengthened our coaching staff,” McNair said. “I’m pleased we were able to finalize our contractual negotiations with Gary and with our coaches, so everybody will be on the same timeline. That makes everyone feel very good about the situation.”

Houston was a potent passing team last season as sportsbook stats showed but they were 30th in rushing.
