Sportsbook website news continues to be bad for the Georgia Bulldogs, their fans, and gamblers who have had the misfortune of backing them so far in 2010.
On Their Faces
Georgia has fallen flat on heir face out of the gate in Southeastern Conference play after their 24-12 loss at Mississippi State as 1-point road dogs at Sbg global.com. The Bulldogs are 1-3 both straight up and against the spread with their only payout being a 55-7 win over Louisiana-Lafayette of the Sun Belt Conference on opening day.
Slipping Further in Stature
Georgia has long been considered to be one of the top coaching destinations in the country and a football program that has everything necessary for success. The Bulldogs have a huge nationwide fan base, a massive donor system that makes money no object, fertile recruiting ground, and great tradition. Head coach Mark Richt entered this season averaging 10 wins per year but also leading a program that was falling behind in online sportsbook stature to SEC powers Alabama, Florida, and LSU. Losing to Mississippi State only adds to the perception that this is a program that is suffering from a decline.
An Offensive Specialist?
What has been most alarming about the fall of Georgia is that Richt is considered to be an offensive expert. He was Bobby Bowden’s offensive coordinator at Florida State before arriving at Athens and he now leads a program that ranks 80th in the country for total offense and ranks 73rd in scoring. Although Georgia outgained Mississippi State 387-314 they self-imploded with 2 costly first-half fumbles that are emblematic of their sloppy play under Richt. Adding insult to injury was that Georgia had been dominant over Mississippi State with a sportsbook website record of 16 wins in 21 all-time matchups.
Growing Rap Sheet
Just as bad as the on-field results have been the off-field embarrassments for Richt’s program. Georgia was in the headlines throughout the offseason for player discipline issues that included several brushes with the law. The renegade image continued to grow after the online sportsbook loss at Mississippi State as freshman linebacker Demetre Baker was arrested for DUI just hours after the defeat. It was the 10th arrest of a Bulldog player this year. As the losses and the arrests mount so too will the calls for a new coach at Georgia.
