Four-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson is favored at the sportsbook website at New Hampshire on Sunday as the Chase begins. Johnson is +420 at sbgglobal which is slightly below Denny Hamlin who is +450 and Kyle Busch who is +550. Keep in mind that although only 12 drivers make the Chase, any of the 43 drivers can win the weekly races and they have some nice odds at the sportsbook.
Chase Favorites – Jimmie Johnson has three wins at New Hampshire and 12 top 10 finishes. He has the second best driver rating in the field this week. Denny Hamlin has had some success at New Hampshire. He has one win and has finished in the top five a total of three times. In his nine races, his average finish is 8.2. Very Little Chance – Carl Edwards has never won at New Hampshire and has only two top 10 finishes. Throw out Edwards as a contender this week at the sportsbook website. Matt Kenseth is another non-contender as he has never won at New Hampshire although he does have five top five finishes. Clint Bowyer has one won and three top 10 finishes at New Hampshire.
Race Facts – There have been a total of 31 Sprint Cup races at New Hampshire. The series had one from 1993 through 1996 and two races there every since. A total of 20 different drivers have won with Jeff Burton the most successful with four wins. Starting on the pole means little as only four races have been won from the pole.
Longshots – There have been 12 races in Chase history won by drivers that were not among the 12 drivers who qualified for the Chase and yes, one of those races was last year when Jamie McMurray won at Talladega. If you want a non-chase driver that might have a shot then take a look at Juan Pablo Montoya. He is 19-1 at the offshore sportsbook and those odds are lower than some of the drivers in the chase.
