Sportsbook Website – Braves Add a Big Bat. The Atlanta Braves made news at the sportsbook website on Tuesday as they acquired All-Star second baseman Dan Uggla from the Florida Marlins. The addition of Uggla gives the Braves a powerful bat in the lineup and could make them a contender next season in baseball odds at the sportsbook.
Dan Uggla
The second baseman has hit 154 home runs in his five seasons with Florida. He is a three-time All-Star and is a major acquisition for the Braves. Atlanta had to give up utility man Omar Infante and pitcher Mike Dunn to get Uggla but it sure looks like a great deal for the Braves. The addition of Uggla will allow the Braves to move Martin Prado to first base and also allow Prado to fill in for Chipper Jones at third.
Marlins Fire Sale
Stop me if you have heard this one before. The Marlins are unloading all of their talent in a fire sale. The Marlins have now traded away Uggla, Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller in recent weeks. It is not the first time that the Marlins have cut payroll and started over. The Marlins simply don’t have the payroll to afford high priced talent so they bring up talent from their farm system and hope to compete. It has worked well in the past and maybe it will work this time as well. It sure doesn’t sit well with the fans though as the Marlins continue to trade away their best players. The Marlins did offer Uggla a four-year deal worth $48 million but Uggla rejected the deal as it was nowhere near the $71 million over five years he was looking for. The Marlins are supposedly set to sign catcher John Buck to a three-year $18 million dollar deal but he is nowhere near the player Uggla was and will not come close to replacing Uggla in the Marlins lineup. The Marlins get Infante and Dunn but neither is an impact player. Infante is a good hitter who can fill in at second or third base while Dunn is a work in progress.
Braves 18-1 at the Sportsbook Website
The Braves are an interesting team in terms of World Series baseball odds for next season. They are 18-1 to win the World Series at SBG and with the addition of Uggla and a new manager in Fredi Gonazlez; the Braves may be worth a bet at the sportsbook.
