Sportsbook Page – Westbrook Gets a Job. Last year the sportsbook page at Sbgglobal.com featured articles on the great career Brian Westbrook was having when he played for the Eagles. He had a great career with the Eagles before getting hurt but now gamblers at the offshore sportsbook will have to get used to him in San Francisco 49er colors.
Sportsbook page stories had the news about Westbrook on the front page on Monday. Westbrook is a marquee name and even though he is no longer the player he once was, his signing made NFL news. The 49ers signed Westbrook to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million guaranteed and the contract includes another $1.25 million worth of incentives.
Former Pro Bowler: Westbrook is a two-time Pro Bowler and he may be able to help San Francisco. He won’t have the starting running back job as that belongs to Frank Gore but he can back Gore up and catch the ball out of the backfield. He played eight years for Philadelphia and was a very good running back when healthy. He played only eight games last season because of injury.
Westbrook was able to get a job because Glen Coffee, the 49er’s third round pick a year ago suddenly decided to retire. He told San Francisco that he no longer wanted to play football and the 49ers were left looking for a replacement. They were not very confident in Anthony Dixon or Michael Robinson to back up Gore.
It was just three years ago when Westbrook led the league in yards from scrimmage with 2,104. Concussions were a problem for Westbrook and it remains to be seen if he is fully healthy. If so, the 49ers got a great deal as they are paying Westbrook far less than they would have paid someone else for a backup role to Gore. If Westbrook has nothing left then it was a low cost gamble.
Westbrook’s Production: What could Westbrook do this season to impact odds at the offshore sportsbook? Glen Coffee had 83 carries for 226 yards last season. Gore got the bulk of the work but Westbrook could see some solid playing time, especially since he is a far better receiver out of the backfield than either Gore or Coffee.
Odds: The 49ers are 15-1 to win the Super Bowl this season at SBG global.com. The addition of Westbrook could definitely help San Francisco this season.
