Sportsbook Odds Favor Mickelson in Masters Tune-Up

Sportsbook odds favor Phil Mickelson this week as many of the top golfers in the world play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando, Florida. Mickelson is the 7.5 to 1 favorite at the offshore sportsbook.  It was thought that Tiger Woods might return for this event which he has won the past two years, but Tiger won’t be back until The Masters.

Sportsbook odds list Steve Stricker as the second choice this week at 12-1.  He is followed by Jim Furyk, Ernie Els and Nick Watney at 18-1 each.  While Mickelson is the favorite, Els and Furyk have won the last two events on the PGA Tour.  Another PGA Tour winner this season is Camilo Villegas and he is 23-1.

Els is probably playing as well as any golfer and his odds of 18-1 have some appeal. He won this tournament in 1998 but has not played in it since 2007. Els leads the PGA Tour this season in birdies or better percentage on Par 5 holes. Watney is also getting some play at the sportsbook and he has been putting very well this year.  He finished tied for fourth a year ago in this event.

This week can give you some interesting longshots to consider at the offshore sportsbook.  It is one of the last two chances for a golfer to qualify for The Masters in three weeks. Someone like Justin Rose at 50-1 might be worth a shot in golf odds.

Sean O’Hair is listed at 20-1 in golf odds to win this week.   He has been at least tied for a share of the lead in this event each of the past two years. He was in great shape last year until Tiger Woods came from well back to beat him. Vijay Singh was listed at 20-1 but he has pulled out of this event. Hunter Mahan is 25-1.  Zach Johnson, Retief Goosen and Robert Allenby are each 28-1. Charles Schwartzel and Stephen Ames are 37-1.

It could be a tough scoring week for the golfers. In three of the last five years, Bay Hill has played over par. It has been ranked 11th or higher as the most difficult course on Tour six times since 2000. The most difficult hole at Bay Hill last year was the par-4 16th with an average score of 4.47.
