The No. 20 ranked Irish come into this game after winning both their home and road openers. They moved up a couple of spots after defeating Purdue in Week 2, 20-17. Golson is, however, expected to return against the Spartans after throwing for 289 yards against the Boilermakers.
The No. 10 ranked Spartans also come into this game winning their first two, including destroying Central Michigan in Week 2 by a score of 41-7. That earned the Spartans a move from the 11th ranked spot to number 10. Against the Chippewas, Michigan State was up 24-0 at the half, and 31-0 after three quarters. In their first two games, the Spartans have yet to allow for an offensive touchdown, giving up just 37 and 72 yards rushing.
