Sportsbook Handicappers Expect Wizards to Select John Wall

Sportsbook Handicappers Expect Wizards to Select John Wall.  The NBA Draft is just a few days away and sportsbook handicappers expect the Washington Wizards to take Kentucky point guard John Wall with the top pick. Wall is the obvious star of the NBA Draft and he could immediately make an impact vs. NBA sportsbook online odds next season.

Wall worked out for the Wizards on Thursday and it seems like Washington has already decided they will take him.  Wall worked out for head coach Flip Saunders and on hand to watch the workout were general manager Ernie Grunfeld and new team owner Ted Leonsis. The workout of Wall was an individual workout which really points even more to the Wizards taking Wall first overall.

Wall has not worked out for any other NBA team and has no plans at the moment to do so.  The Wizards have not worked out Evan Turner who was thought to be another contender to go number one.  Sometimes in the NBA Draft a team might considering trading the number one pick but that is not going to happen this year. Wall is a potential superstar player and the Wizards have no plans on trading the pick.  Leonsis who is the new owner also intends to rebuild the Wizards through the draft so trading the pick makes no sense.  Leonsis owns the Washington Capitals and he has used a similar strategy with them.

Since 1996 there have been only two point guards to be taken with the number one pick in the NBA Draft. Those two players are Allen Iverson and Derrick Rose.   If Wall goes number one as expected he would be in the same backcourt alongside of Gilbert Arenas.  That pairing would give the Wizards what could be a great backcourt combination.

Not much went right last season for the Wizards. They had to deal with the Arenas mess and his suspension and things went downhill from there. The team won just 26 games overall and they were not much better against the spread going 35-45-2. They do have some young talent though with Andray Blatche and Randy Foye. If Arenas returns as expected, the Wizards could have some nice scoring options in addition to Wall.

The NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 24th from Madison Square Garden in New York and begins at 7 pm Eastern time.
