Sportsbook – Giants Losing Games and Players

The New York Giants have lost two straight games against the football odds at the sportsbook and now they are starting to lose players as well.

The Giants lost 27-17 to Philadelphia on Sunday and in the process they lost top wide receiver Hakeem Nicks to an injury. New York is favored on Sunday at the sports book as they play a very important game as they host the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Nicks out Three Weeks
The Giants are expected to be without their top scoring threat for the next three weeks.  Nicks developed swelling in his right leg after the loss to the Eagles. He is being treated for compartment syndrome, or swelling in the lower leg.  He underwent a fasciotomy at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Monday.  Nicks is having a great season as he is tied for third in the league with 62 receptions. He has 800 yards receiving and nine touchdowns this season.

New York Injuries
The Giants are already without wide receiver Steve Smith who is expected to miss at least another week with a torn pectoral muscle.  New York is now down to three wide receivers with Mario Manningham, rookie Duke Calhoun and Derek Hagan. The Giants placed Ramses Barden on injured reserve last week.  Look for the Giants to pick up another receiver this week.

Another Late Season Collapse
The Giants looked so good earlier this season that gamblers at SBG were saying they were the best team in the NFL. That is not being said anymore and now people at the sports book are talking about the Giants possibly missing the playoffs. New York has been a team that collapses under head coach Tom Coughlin. Even in the season they won the Super Bowl they did not play well down the stretch.  That New York team just happened to get hot in the playoffs and win it all. This week’s game against Jacksonville is almost a must-win since the Giants have road games remaining this season at Minnesota who may now be much improved with a new coach, at Green Bay and at Washington. And they also have to host the Eagles again and that won’t be easy. New York is an 8-point favorite this week at the sportsbook as they host the Jaguars.
