Sportsbook Fans Following Epic Wimbledon Match

Sportsbook Fans Following Epic Wimbledon Match.  Fans at the sportsbook were following the longest match in Wimbledon history on Wednesday. The match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut was suspended in the fifth set tied at 59-59.  Fans at the Internet sportsbook were definitely amazed by the longest match in tennis history.

Sportsbook odds don’t favor Isner or Mahut to win Wimbledon but this match will be remembered.  The match time heading into Thursday was at 10 hours and it has gone 163 games.  It is by far the longest match in tennis history. Wimbledon doesn’t go to a tiebreaker in the final set but perhaps they will reconsider that rule after this match is over. The longest previous match in terms of games at Wimbledon was 112 games and that was set in 1969.  Isner and Mahut topped that number in the fifth set alone.

Isner and Mahut have played more games in the final set than any other previous full match at Wimbledon.  They were tied at 59-59 heading into Thursday’s action for a total of 118 games.  Isner has some chances to win the match in the fifth set but couldn’t convert any of his four match points. The numbers from the fifth set are really behind comprehension.  They played 612 points just in the fifth set.  Isner had 98 aces while Mahut had 95. Neither player was breaking the other’s serve in the fifth set.  That was also the case in the third and fourth sets as well.  Break points were few and far between for both players.

The favorite on the men’s side to win Wimbledon, Roger Federer was amazed at the match between Isner and Mahut.  He said it is beyond anything he had ever seen. Federer struggled through his first two matches but he did survive and move on to the third round.

This year’s Wimbledon will be remembered for who ultimately wins the tournament but it will also be remembered for the match played between Isner and Mahut.  No one believes that another match like this will ever be played in terms of length of games.  And it was not over yet heading into Thursday’s play.  The two players will go beyond the 118 games since at Wimbledon in the final set a player must win by two games.
