Sportsbook Fans Continue to Watch Coyotes in Phoenix

Sportsbook fans will be able to watch the Coyotes in Phoenix again next season. The NHL team was a major surprise this past season to bettors at the sportsbook. It was thought that the Coyotes might have to move from Phoenix but the City of Glendale and the Coyotes have agreed to a new lease.

Sportsbook odds on Phoenix dropped throughout the NHL season as the Coyotes continued to win.  They were eventually eliminated in the playoffs but it was a great year for the Coyotes.  The Coyotes could have been moved to Winnipeg but the city looks to have worked out an agreement with the Ice Edge group that will keep the team in the Phoenix area.  The NHL wanted to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix and was working with the city of Glendale to make that happen.

The Ice Edge investors really wanted to keep the team in the Phoenix area and that is the main reason their bid was likely to be approved. “Ice Edge continues to believe in the future of hockey in the valley,” the group said, “We have held several discussions with the city of Glendale over the past few days, and those discussions continue through the weekend.”

Phoenix is expected to get everything worked out shortly and the team will continue to play in Glendale.  Phoenix has a number of players who are looking at free agency so the ownership issues will need to be resolved quickly and all indications are that things are in place.  Phoenix now looks like a contender in the Western Conference and you could not say that before the season began.  In fact, the Coyotes set franchise records this past season for wins and points.  They nearly beat Detroit in the playoffs before losing Game 7.

Just how good was Phoenix this past season versus the NHL odds at the sportsbook?  They won 50 games this past season and at home they were especially tough to beat as they won 29 games.  The Coyotes were also vastly underrated in sportsbook odds which made them a great bargain on almost a nightly basis. Almost as good a wager as betting on Phoenix to win was betting their games under the total. 46 of their games went under the total while only 26 went over.  10 games were pushes vs. the NHL odds total.
