Sport book tells us that the top seeds for the U.S. Open that begins next week are Roger Federer and Dinara Safina.
Federer is favored on the men’s side at the Internet sportbook but Safina is not favored on the women’s side.
Sport book has Federer the +120 favorite on the men’s side while Serena Williams is +175 on the women’s side. The sports betting draw on the men’s side has Federer and Rafael Nadal on opposite sides so they could meet in the final. That might not happen though since Nadal is not in prime shape and would be doing well to reach the final. Nadal is not the second choice in tennis odds at the sport book. That honor goes to Andy Murray who is 3-1 in online betting. Nadal is 5.5 to 1 in sports betting at the Internet sportbook. To reach the final Federer could have to face #4 Novak Djokovic and #5 Andy Roddick. Federer has dominated both in the past as sport book facts show, although Roddick gave him quite a match in the Wimbledon final.
On the women’s side it is Serena favored at the sport book followed by sister Venus at +425. Elena Dementieva is the third choice at 7.5 to 1 at the sport book. Maria Sharapova is 9.5 to 1 while three players, Safina, Ana Ivanovic and Victoria Azarenka are 10-1 each. While the Williams’ sisters are the two favorites at the sport book they will not meet in the final. They are on the same side of the draw. Serena is the second seed while Venus is the third seed so they are both on the opposite side of the draw with Safina the #1 seed.
Looking at what could happen with the quarterfinals it could be Federer vs. #8 Nikolay Davydenko at the sport book. Roddick and Djokovic could be paired in quarterfinal sport book odds. Murray could be up against #5 Juan Martin Del Potro while Nadal could face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Internet sportbook odds. In the semifinals at the sport book it could be Nadal against Murray if Nadal gets that far. There is no guaranteed that Nadal gets past his first round match against Richard Gasquet who used to be a Top 10 player.
Internet sportbook tells us that Federer is trying to become the first man since the 1920s to win the tournament six years in a row.
The women’s quarterfinals at the sport book could have Safina facing Jankovic and Dementieva against Svetlana Kuznetsova. Serena could be facing Vera Zvonareva and Venus could face Azarenka.
