Serena Named Female Athlete of the Year Sport books

Serena Named Female Athlete of the Year Sport books. Sport books noted that Serena Williams was named AP Female Athlete of the Year. Serena was the best player in women’s tennis in 2009 and won the AP award going away. In fact, Internet sportsbook stats showed that Williams received 66 of the 158 votes with no other candidate getting more than 18.

Sport books almost always have Serena as a big favorite in women’s tennis but it was not all good for Serena in 2009. She lost in the U.S. Open and ran her mouth against an official that ended up costing her a lot of money. In reality though, the fine was a drop in the bucket for Serena since she earned over $6 million in 2009. “We can attribute the strength and the growth of women’s tennis a great deal to her,” WTA chairman and CEO Stacey Allaster said, “She is a superstar.” Internet sportsbook info shows that Williams also won the AP award in 2002. “I’m just happy and blessed to even be playing seven years later. All this is a bonus, really,” Williams said. “In 2002, I just was really dominant, and I think in 2009, I just brought that back. I kind of became that player again.”

Serena ended the Internet sportsbook year ranked #1 in the WTA rankings. She broke the record for most money won by over a million dollars. He won Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the season-ending tour championships. Serena was 50-12 in her singles matches last season at sport books. Serena has won 11 Grand Slam titles in sport books history. She did lose this year in the French Open and the U.S. Open.

Looking at the voting it was clear there were not a lot of female athletes that did anything in 2009 vs. the Internet sportsbook odds. Zenyatta, the mare who won the Breeders’ Cup Classic was actually second in the voting. Kim Clijsters who just recently came out of retirement, finished third in the voting. Lindsey Vonn was next as sport books stat showed followed by Diana Taurasi.

Serena was really the only female athlete that got a lot of TV coverage this sport books season. In her Wimbledon semifinal she defeated Elena Dementieva 6-7 (4), 7-5, 8-6. She hit 20 aces in that sport books win. Williams is hoping for another great season in 2010. “My goal is to have a better year than ’09 — and to stay healthy,” Williams said, “and I think if I can do that, I’ll be fine.”
