Pacquiao Dominates Clottey

Sportsbook players around the world gave all their attention on Saturday night to the exciting bout that took place in Arlington, Texas as more than 50,000 at Cowboys Stadium watched Manny Pacquiao completely dominate Joshua Clottey.

The online sportsbook odds had Pacquiao as about a 6-1 favorite and he was never in danger of losing the bout against Clottey. Sportsbook action had Pacquiao winning a unanimous decision over Clottey.  It may have been a title fight but the only one that showed up was Pacquiao.  Clottey simply was passive the entire fight and there wasn’t a fan in the stands that didn’t know who won.

One of the judges gave Pacquiao every single round while the two other judges gave him nine of the ten rounds. What those other two judges were looking at is unclear since Clottey did not win a round.  The odds at the online sportsbook had Pacquiao as a big favorite and in retrospect he should have been favored by a lot more.

Clottey was never a threat to Pacquiao but the champ gave the challenger some credit anyway. “He’s a very tough opponent,” Pacquiao said. “He was looking for a big shot.”  Pacquiao gave his fans a good show since most of the people watching the fight were cheering for him.  They would have preferred to be watching him against Floyd Mayweather Jr. but that fight is still not on the radar. “I want that fight, the world wants that fight, but it’s up to him,” Pacquiao said. “I’m ready to fight any time.” Pacquiao won’t be fighting Mayweather in the new future because Mayweather will be fighting Shane Mosley in May.

The fight between Pacquiao and Clottey was really more of an event for the fans at Cowboys Stadium.  It was the biggest crowd in the United States for a fight since 1993.  Pacquiao was well paid for the win as he earned at least $12 million and kept his reputation as one of the best fighters of all time intact.  Clottey reportedly earned over a million for showing up.

The bout was so one-sided as sportsbook stats indicated that Pacquiao threw three times as many punches as Clottey. And he landed more than twice as many. “He had a good defense, but defense isn’t enough to win a fight,” Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach said. “He has speed, I lost the fight,” Clottey said. “He’s fast, that’s why I was taking my time.”
