No Wimbledon Magic for Roddick in Sportsbook Upset

Roddick: No Wimbledon Magic for Roddick in Sportsbook Upset. Andy Roddick made big news last year with his epic loss to Roger Federer in the final at Wimbledon but his success won’t be repeated this year as he lost in the fourth round vs. the sportsbook tennis odds. It was a sports book shocker as helost to Yen-Hsun Lu who is the 82nd ranked player in the world.

Sports book odds heavily favored Roddick in this match but as he has throughout his career, helet everyone down. He lost 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 9-7 in a match that lasted more than four and a half hours. Lu won the fifth set by breaking Roddick for the only time in the match. Lu was not expected to even provide a challenge to Roddick. Lu had lost in the first round at Wimbledon four straight times but this year he made it to the fourth round and upset the heavily favored Roddick vs. sportsbook odds. He is the first Asian man to reach the quarterfinals since Shuzo Matsuoka of Japan in 1995. The match between Roddick and Lu was all about serve. Roddick had 38 aces while Lu had 22. Lu was just 2-10 before Monday against players ranked in the Top-10 in the world. Lu had lost in straight sets the previous three times he had faced Roddick.

The two sportsbook favorites at Wimbledon on the men’s side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal made it to the quarterfinals with straight set wins. Federer rolled over Jurgen Melzer while Nadal won in straight sets against Paul-Henri Mathieu.

Lu will probably see his success end as he faces Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. The winner of that match would then get Federer if he wins as expected in his quarterfinal match vs. Tomas Berdych. On the other side of the bracket it will be Rafael Nadal facing Robin Soderling. It will be the first time that Soderling has made the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. In the other quarterfinal matchup it will be fourth-seeded Andy Murray facing 10th seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Murray will be in the quarterfinals for the third straight year. He is playing better than anyone so far as he is the only player on the men’s side who has not lost a set and his odds at the sports book continue to drop.
