Mets Star Shortstop to Miss Time

Mets Star Shortstop to Miss Time. Sportsbook odds on the New York Mets could be impacted by the injuries the team is suffering. The latest one has All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes out for at least the next couple of weeks and perhaps as long as two months.  The Mets were considered a sportsbook online contender in the National League but they have so many early problems that it could be another long year for New York.

Sportsbook already has the Mets without outfielder Carlos Beltran and now they are going to miss Reyes. They also have to deal with pitcher Johan Santana coming back from injury.  The Mets will be without Beltran although Santana is expected to be ready for opening day.  It does not look as good for Reyes who will probably start the season on the DL. “It doesn’t look good right now.” Mets general manager Omar Minaya said, “We will have to prepare for that.”

Reyes has an overactive thyroid and he will have to take some time to rest. “Jose is obviously a little bit disappointed that it’s going to be a matter of weeks as opposed to days, but it’s a completely, treatable, curable situation,” his agent, Peter Greenberg said. “I think we all view it as good news.”  Reyes was expected to bounce back with a big year for New York and lead their resurgence and that is now in question.

The Mets are definitely a team that is going to be interesting to watch in terms of odds at the sportsbook.  It may not be for winning though.  With Beltran and Reyes set to miss the start of the season and a questionable Johan Santana, the Mets do not look like a contender in the National League East this season. Their odds are still pretty low though to win the World Series. That is simply based on reputation though because on paper the Mets are likely to struggle.

New York was 70-92 last season but for some unknown reason they are still getting respect in terms of future sportsbook online odds.  They have been listed at the range of 20-1 to win the World Series.  In reality those odds should be 40-1 or more.  The lineup is weak, the pitching staff has holes and they have a lot of injuries.  It does not look promising right now for the Mets in 2010.
