Major Champions Struggling in Sportsbook Golf Odds

Major Champions Struggling in Sportsbook Golf Odds. Sportsbook golf odds this season have not been dominated by the winners of last year’s four majors. The first major of this season was won by Phil Mickelson last week when he won the Masters. The winners of last year’s majors though are struggling in the early part of the golf season vs. the odds at the offshore sportsbook.

Sportsbook odds on British Open champion Stewart Cink have been higher since Cink is not playing well.  U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover has not been seen on the leaderboard very often.  Last year’s Masters winner Angel Cabrera has done very little. Only PGA champion Y.E. Yang has played well.  He finished tied for eighth at the Masters.  He was third in the Phoenix Open.  Cink’s best finish was losing in the quarterfinals of the Match Play Championship.  Glover’s best sportsbook finish was a ninth at San Diego. Angel Cabrera has not even been close to winning since last year. “I can’t speak for anybody else,” said Glover, “I did the same thing in the offseason. I’m doing the same things now that I did before, and will continue to do them. Only major difference for me is I’m not playing as much. I’ve having a little extra time off to try to stay fresh. Hopefully, that will pay off.”

Sportsbook fans noted that Stewart Cink had similar things to say. “I need to compare myself to the players that are playing the very best,” Cink said. “And if you look, they are always efficient at getting the ball up-and-down from 50 yards, and their birdie conversation rate is pretty high. And neither of those two areas I’ve been great at this year.”

Cabrera is playing more in the United States this year but it really hasn’t mattered as he has not been on the leaderboard often vs. golf odds at the sportsbook.  He is playing to play at Colonial and the Memorial in addition to his other normal events. “I’m happy here,” he said. He is looking to rent a house in the Houston area.

Another player who struggled last week vs. offshore sportsbook golf odds was Steve Stricker.  He didn’t play well until the final round. He said he may change his irons. “I may try something different,” he said. “I’ve been monkeying with some different sets the last year or two, and now might be a good time to switch it up, just to get a different look and a different feel.”
