Huge Underdogs in Sports Book Baseball Betting

Sports book baseball betting is going to give you some big underdogs to look at during the season. Sometimes online sports betting gamblers will make the mistake of betting too many of these big underdogs at the sportsbook. Yes, it’s very exciting when you nail one of these bets at the online sportsbook, but there is a reason that a team is a big underdog.

Sportsbook wagering on underdogs is a lot more successful against the pointspread than it is against the money line.  You must remember when wagering against the sports book money line that when a team wins it doesn’t matter how highly priced they are.  You might love the underdog price of +200 or more at the sports book but if a team loses it doesn’t matter how high the price was.  There is no value in a loser at the sportsbook.

In the end the big plus money dogs are a trap in baseball betting at the sportsbook. There is a reason that garbage teams such as the Pittsburgh Pirates and Kansas City Royals are constantly huge underdogs at the sports book; it’s because they are not very good. The sports book oddsmakers raise the odds way up on such teams for two reasons. First, they want to scare off as much online sports betting action as they can when the weaklings go up against the powers such as the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and St. Louis Cardinals, particularly when the power team is at home.  The second reason is that they are trying to entice action on the bad teams at the sports book is that many gamblers get sucked into playing the garbage teams. Much like the lottery, you may hit it for a few dollars now and then but over the long run, big number garbage dogs will erode your sports book bankroll.

The best time to bet a bad team at the sportsbook, if you must, is when they are playing another bad team. True, the sports book odds are not nearly as strong, at least at first glance, but often times they are actually more fair and reflective of the team’s chances of picking up a victory. It is actually a better value to take a bad team against another bad team at a bargain price rather than against a power team no matter what the sportsbook price.

Wagering on bad teams that are big underdogs is simply not the way to make money at baseball betting at the sports book over the long run so keep that in mind.
