Heisman Runner-Up Headed to NFL Sportsbook

Sportsbook noted that Heisman Trophy runner-up Toby Gerhart of Stanford is headed to the NFL. Gerhart made a huge impact in college football in online sportsbook results and could have chosen to stay at Stanford for a fifth year since he was injured and played only one game in 2007 but he will enter the NFL Draft instead.

Sportsbook had Stanford making a major mark with Gerhart running the ball the past few years.  “We’ve been through a lot of adversity during my time here, but I’m extremely proud to have been part of the class that brought Stanford football back to national prominence,” Gerhart said. The Cardinal lost to Oklahoma in the Sun Bowl in online sportsbook odds but overall, Stanford was very good with Gerhart running the ball. They were ranked for the first time in eight years and had a shot at the Pac-10 title late in the sportsbook season.

Gerhart had 223 yards and three TDs in a 51-42 sportsbook victory over Oregon this season and he had 178 yards rushing and three scores in a 55-21 sportsbook win at USC. He also had 136 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-28 loss to California and 205 yards rushing, three touchdowns and a TD pass in a win against Notre Dame.

Sportsbook stats had him with a school-record 1,871 yards and 28 touchdowns this past season. He won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back and many believe he should have won the Heisman. His overall numbers were superior to Ingram’s but Stanford did not have the year that the Crimson Tide had. Online sportsbook stats indicated that he finished second to Alabama’s Mark Ingram in the closest Heisman vote ever. “Toby will be a great pro, and we are all excited for his opportunity at the next level,” Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh said. “We are excited and enthused to watch Toby and all of our seniors go on to become leaders in their chosen fields.”  It will be interesting to see which team takes a shot with Gerhart in the NFL Draft.

Next sportsbook college football season the Cardinal will look to Stepfan Taylor who ran for 303 yards as a freshman.  He will get help from Jeremy Stewart and Tyler Gaffney.  Stanford may look to throw the ball more next year as college football online sportsbook stats indicate as they have Andrew Luck.
