Fulham is a Sportsbook Underdog in Europa League Final

Fulham is a Sportsbook Underdog in Europa League Final. Atletico Madrid is favored in sportsbook soccer odds against Fulham in the Europa League final on Wednesday. Madrid is a 2-1 favorite at the sportsbook but Fulham has played well as the underdog in the Europa League and they could pull off another upset on Wednesday.

Sportsbook odds list the total on this game at 2.5 with the under at -165. There is also a three-way line on the match if you believe the teams will need extra time to decide the winner.  The match for Fulham is without question the biggest one in the team’s history.  Fulham has only made one final in the past and that was in 1975.

Fulham was not supposed to be in the Europa League final (formerly UEFA Cup). They upset Juventus, Hamburg and Shakhtar Donetsk in sportsbook odds to make it this far.  “When we started out, we didn’t even think about reaching the final,” Fulham defender Brede Hangeland said. “It was almost a distraction from the league. But the closer you get, the more you think about it and I think when we beat Juventus we started thinking ‘Why not go all the way?”’

Winning against Atletico will not be easy.  Atletico has the history and the resume as they have won nine Spanish League titles and a UEFA Cup in the past but that doesn’t deter Fulham.   “We’ve been underdogs in every round so we’re definitely underdogs in this game,” Fulham midfielder Jonathan Greening said. “You look at Madrid’s team and, on paper, everyone would say they should beat us. But we’ve surprised a few teams this year and hopefully we can do it again on Wednesday.” Fulham is led by Bobby Zamora who has eight goals in Europa League play.  Zamora does have an Achilles injury but he is expected to play. Fulham also has U.S. forward Clint Dempsey although it is unclear if he will see much playing time.

Atletico beat Liverpool in the semifinals to make it this far. They are led by striker Diego Forlan and forward Sergio Aguero. Atletico has injury concerns of their own as goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo is out with a knee injury.  It is not a huge loss though since Atletico still has David de Gea. Atletico has not had a good season overall with only two wins in 14 European matches but they are still the sportsbook favorites against Fulham.
