Fans Wondering about the New York Giants

A team that is facing a lot of pressure to win this season is the New York Giants and many fans at the sportsbook are wondering how the Giants will do in 2010. New York was a disappointing team last year as they went 8-8 and they are not among the favorites at the sportsbook this season.

Sportsbook stats indicated that the Giants went a very poor 6-9-1 against the spread last season.  The Giants play in a very tough division with Dallas, Philadelphia and Washington so it won’t be easy this season.  Head coach Tom Coughlin is reportedly feeling the heat and another non-winning season could mean he is out in New York. Owner John Mara was very unhappy about how the team did last season and changes will be made if the team does not win this year.

The Giants started last season at 5-0 and that fast start vs. the NFL odds at the sportsbook actually made the 8-8 season feel a lot worse.  The team did make some changes in the off-season as they got rid of defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan. The Giants gave up 427 points last season which was third-worst in the league so Sheridan had to go.  He has been replaced by Perry Fewell.  The Giants simply could not replace Steve Spagnuolo who left to coach the Rams.  They will try to do so this season with Fewell. The Giants will also have to find a replacement for linebacker Antonio Pierce.  He suffered a herniated disk in Week 9 and didn’t play the rest of the season.  He may have played his last game.  The Giants are hoping that they can find a replacement with the leading candidate being Jonathan Goff.

New York was able to score last season as they were 8th in the league in total yards and in points scored. It didn’t matter though because their defense was 30th in the league in points allowed.  The Giants open up the 2010 regular season at home in what should be a winnable game vs. odds at the sportsbook against the Carolina Panthers. The Giants are 7-point favorites in NFL odds at the sportsbook against the Panthers with a total of 40.  The early part of the season is favorable for the Giants if they play well.  Three of their first four games of the season are at home.
