Early Sportsbook Favorites for 2010-2011 College Hoops

Sportsbook contenders in college basketball for next season begin with one of this year’s Final Four teams, Michigan State. The Spartans got some great news recently when star players Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers decided to return.  The Spartans are one of the favorites at the Internet sportsbook to win the title next season.

Sportsbook odds on Michigan State are likely to be low next season.  With Lucas returning the Spartans are going to be favored in a lot of games next season.  The Spartans lose Raymar Morgan but they have a great recruiting class coming in and Tom Izzo could be headed for yet another Final Four.

Duke could also be a contender next season in odds at the Internet sportsbook to win the national title.  Yes, the Blue Devils did win it all this past season and they lose Jon Scheyer but if Kyle Singler comes back they can contend for a national title again. Duke will also get Seth Curry who transferred from Liberty.  He is Stephen Curry’s little brother.  They also have a big time recruit in Kyrie Irving who could make an impact.

Another team that should be back next season in force is Purdue. They could have all of their top players returning including Robbie Hummel who got hurt last season. The question will be whether or not JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore come back. They both put their names into the NBA Draft but didn’t hire agents which means they could return to school.

Two years ago the Tar Heels won it all but last year they slipped and failed to make the NCAA Tournament.  Can they go all the way next year?  It is not out of the realm of possibility.  They lose Ed Davis but he was not as good as they expected anyway. Roy Williams got his team to play well in the NIT and the Tar Heels could be poised for a nice bounce back next year.

Butler made the title game but a return trip seems unlikely. They lose Gordon Hayward to the NBA.  What helps them is that they return Shelvin Mack and Matt Howard. They also have a great head coach in Brad Stevens.  Butler won’t go under the radar next season and their odds at the sportsbook will probably be lower than they should be based upon their success this past season.
