Dolphins Expected to Contend vs. Sportsbook NFL Odds

The Miami Dolphins should be an interesting team to follow this season in terms of NFL odds at the sportsbook. They picked up a star wide receiver in Brandon Marshall in the off-season and their owner is predicting big things in 2010.  The Dolphins have some nice value in terms of Super Bowl odds at the online sportsbook as they are listed at 47-1.

Sportsbook odds don’t favor Miami to win it all because they are in a tough division with New England, the New York Jets and Buffalo.  Even though they are in the tough AFC East, their owner Stephen Ross is forecasting a great season for the Dolphins in 2010. He said he believes his team will be playing in Super Bowl XLV in February.  He doesn’t believe the high expectations will bother head coach Tony Sparano or the players.  Ross is already talking up quarterback Chad Henne, predicting big things for the quarterback.

Miami went 11-5 and won the AFC East two years ago but they slipped to 7-9 last season.  The team added wide receiver Brandon Marshall and linebacker Karlos Dansby in the off-season and big things are expected in Miami.  The Dolphins will have to get past New England and the New York Jets in NFL sportsbook odds to win the division. The Jets won the division last year while the Patriots have won the AFC East in six of the past seven seasons.

Miami finished last season with an offense that was 15th in the league in points scored. The addition of Marshall should definitely improve those numbers.  The rushing attack was good, ranking 4th in the league but the passing attack was only 20th.  The defense was just 25th in the league in points allowed so they can definitely use Dansby’s help as they look to be better vs. the sportsbook point spread.  They were 22nd in the NFL in yards allowed.

Miami better win their opening game at Buffalo in NFL odds at the online sportsbook because their early season schedule is brutal.  After the opener at Buffalo they go to Minnesota, host the New York Jets, host the New England Patriots, go to Green Bay and then host Pittsburgh. Miami is a 1.5 point favorite in NFL odds at the sportsbook for their season opener on September 12th at Buffalo with a total of 37.5.
