Brazil Routs Ivory Coast vs. Sportsbook Odds to Advance

The favorite at the sportsbook to win the World Cup is doing their part as Brazil has moved on to the knockout round. Brazil routed Ivory Coast 3-1 on Sunday in online sportsbook soccer odds to advance to the final 16. They still have one match remaining against Portugal that will decide the winner of Group G.

Sportsbook odds listed Spain and Brazil as the two favorites to win the World Cup and Brazil has shown they are going to be tough to beat.  They defeated North Korea 2-1 in their first match but that was a 2-0 game until a late meaningless goal by North Korea.  They led Ivory Coast 3-0 before Didier Drogba scored late for Ivory Coast.  Luis Fabiano scored two goals to lead Brazil. He scored in the 25th minute after a nice pass by Kaka and he added his second in the 50th minute. Elano scored Brazil’s third goal in the 62nd minute on an assist by Kaka.  The only bad news for Brazil is that Kaka got two yellow cards late in the match and will miss the group finale against Portugal.

Brazil has won both of their matches in Group G so they have already clinched a spot in the4 next round.  Portugal is likely to win against North Korea so that will mean the top spot in the Group will come down to the Brazil-Portugal match later this week.  Ivory Coast is now pretty much out of contention as they would need a massive win against North Korea and then they would need Portugal to get blown out by Brazil. Neither outcome seems very likely.

Brazil has never lost a World Cup match to an African nation and they were never in any danger against Ivory Coast.  Drogba did break Brazil’s streak of shutting out African nations but his goal meant very little since Ivory Coast was already down 3-0 at the time.

Brazil will be favored against Portugal in their final match at the online sportsbook.  They will also be favored in the knockout round regardless of who they play.  It is possible they could be matched up against Spain since the Spanish side could end up finishing second in Group H.
