Big NHL Winning Streaks this Season

Sportsbook streaks in the NHL have happened a lot more than in recent seasons with a number of teams running of strings of wins and losses. These streaks are not always good news for sportsbook online bettors or for the sportsbook.

Sportsbook had the Washington Capitals winning a franchise record 11 straight heading into Thursday’s action.  The Ottawa Senators had won ten straight.  Even the Los Angeles Kings had won seven straight. What has happened in the NHL this season?   Ottawa is a major surprise as they have allowed just 12 goals in their last 10 games.  Ottawa has already broken the franchise record for consecutive wins with 10. They beat Buffalo 4-2 on Wednesday night as Brian Elliott stopped 36 shots to win his eighth game in a row.  Ottawa has also won six straight on the road and that is another sportsbook shocker.  Ottawa is actually within striking distance of the first place Sabres in the Northeast Division. “It is impressive,” said captain Daniel Alfredsson, “I don’t think we expected this from ourselves, either.”

The Senators have not lost since mid-January when Atlanta beat them.  Elliott has simply been great for the Senators during the streak. “Els has been phenomenal,” Ottawa’s Jason Spezza said. “He was probably the reason why we won. He kept us in that game.”

If you think that Ottawa’s winning streak is unusual you would be right but it has become the norm this season.  Washington had won a franchise-record 11 straight in sportsbook online results heading into Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers.

It is not just winning streaks either this sportsbook online NHL season.  The Boston Bruins had lost eight straight before Thursday’s action.  The Edmonton Oilers lost 12 straight at one point this season.  Washington defeated Boston on Wednesday 4-1 in sportsbook NHL results.  The win broke the franchise record of 10 straight wins that was set 26 years ago. “It’s pretty mind boggling,” head coach Bruce Boudreau said.  The Capitals have outscored opponents 51-22 during the streak. “Everybody is pretty proud of it,” said Mike Knuble, “It’s something to talk about. We know it’s not going to last forever, but it’s a great thing to be a part of.” On the other side, Boston has been outscored 28-12 during their losing streak.

It is getting tough for the sportsbook to make odds high enough on Washington. The sportsbook hasn’t reacted as quick to Boston’s losing streak since the Bruins are still considered a good team.  Sportsbook online streaks are tough to predict and this NHL season they are happening with increasing regularity.
