Betting on Golf: 2016 Odds for The Masters

The 2016 edition of The Masters is going to tee off on April 7th in Augusta, GA and if you are betting on golf we a preview of what to expect, and who to pick to win the coveted green jacket. Jordan Spieth, the defending champion comes back to try to win the tournament two years in a row, for the first time since Tiger Woods did it in 2001 and 2002. He is one of the front-runners and favorites by the average offshore bookmaker and a favorite in the fans eyes, but for him to repeat he will have to beat some of the toughest competition in the world.

In 2014 Spieth tied as runner-up with Swedish golfer Jonas Blixt, under Bubba Watson. Then, last year, Spieth put on one of the most impressive performances in the tournament in recent memory, golfing -18 to par (a feat not accomplished since 97 by Tiger Woods) and won his first green jacket. This year the wunderkind of golf arrives at Augusta as a +600 favorite as odds for The Masters. Fans betting on golf are gravitating towards betting for the defending champ. Spieth appears to be a lock to finish within the top 5, or even the top 3.

The other favorites to win the tournament are Australian golfer Jason Day at +600 who himself has been a runner up in 2011 and has been playing exceptionally well in the months leading up to the tournament, having offshore bookmakers consider him as the main threat to Spieth’s championship.

The third favorite is a man seeking vindication at Augusta, Rory McIlroy with odds at +600. Back in 2011 the controversial McIlroy made headlines by becoming the youngest player to lead the Masters at the close of the first day, but his catastrophic collapse in the critical first round cost him the tournament. He would then go on to win the U.S. Open in impressive form. He reaches this year’s Masters as a dark horse touted by those experts betting on golf as a possible surprising candidate.

However, The Masters tends to have surprising performances that could come right out of nowhere. Some of the interesting picks that could make some waves coming at the tournament are some familiar faces to fans betting of golf and players that are used to playing well at Augusta. Some of them are Phil Mickelson (+1800), Adam Scott (+1000), Bubba Watson (+1100), and Justin Rose (+2500).

Besides them other players in the tournament could very well, there are those players that could seek a spot in the top 5 are Louis Oosthuizen (+3000) and Hideki Matsuyama (+3000), they have been playing very well as of late and their talent could see them jumping to the center stage and stealing the show.

As for predictions and picks for those betting on golf, we believe that Spieth will have a great tournament and will be the storyline that everybody will atch, but he will be the runner-up once again along side Adam Scott, as the winner of The Masters will be the veteran Phil Mickelson.
