Revis Absence Still Making News on the Sports Betting Page

The New York Jets continue to make news on the sports betting page as their All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis is holding out. New York owner Woody Johnson was very pessimistic on the chances of Revis playing this season. His absence would be a huge blow to New York’s sports betting chances of winning a Super Bowl.

Sports betting page odds list the Jets as one of the main contenders to win the Super Bowl this season. The Jets are 7.5 to 1 to win the Super Bowl but those odds were made with Revis in the lineup for the Jets. If he does not play this season those odds might be adjusted. It would be rare for a defensive player to impact NFL odds but Revis is considered the best cornerback in the NFL and a player who makes a huge difference.

Revis has said that he is not going to play this season under his current contract and the Jets really don’t have much maneuvering room to work a new deal for him.  Johnson said that he does not expect Revis to play for the team this season. Whether that is an attempt to get him to move off of his demands is unknown.  Many people surrounding the Jets don’t believe they can win the Super Bowl without their best defensive player. That does not mean the team is going to give in to Revis’ contract demands. New York general manager Mike Tannenbaum said that the team got a new proposal from Revis’ agent but that it really wasn’t any different than the proposal the Jets already rejected.

New York head coach Rex Ryan is starting to prepare for the season without his star cornerback.   Ryan had really not said anything about Revis not being with the team this season but on Monday that changed. The Jets have offered Revis a long team deal worth more than $100 million but very little of that is guaranteed and that is the sticking point.  Revis wants to be the highest paid cornerback in the league but the Jets simply don’t have the ability to make that happen. The Jets are moving Antonio Cromartie to his’ spot and they are trying to find someone for the other corner spot. It could be that rookie Kyle Wilson gets the nod.
