May 30, 2011 Sports Betting

The marquee baseball matchup in sports betting online this weekend is the New York Yankees visiting the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox were the favorites to win the American League this season but they are off to a surprising 0-6 start while New York is a solid 4-2. Even though Boston hasn’t won a game yet they are favored on Friday in sports betting odds at the Sbg sportsbook.

The game on Friday is an early start and it will be the home opener for the Red Sox.  The pitching matchup has New York sending Phil Hughes while Boston will counter with John Lackey.  The Red Sox are having all kinds of trouble scoring runs and that wasn’t supposed to be their problem.  Adrian Gonzalez is doing his part but no one else in the lineup is hitting. The Red Sox really need a good start out of Lackey who was awful last Saturday as he gave up nine earned runs in just over 3 innings of work against Texas. Lackey was 11-5 at home last year and got a ton of run support.  He was 1-1 last season vs. New York with a 3.20 ERA. Hughes was awful in his first start as he gave up five runs in a 10-7 loss to Detroit.  MLB Network has this broadcast on Friday.

The pitching matchup on Saturday has the youngsters going as the Yankees send Ivan Nova while the Red Sox go with Clay Buchholz.  This game can be seen on Fox television and Boston will be a slight favorite in baseball odds.

ESPN will be televising the finale of this three game series and it has the potential to be a great pitching matchup with the Yankees sending CC Sabathia while the Red Sox go with Josh Beckett.  The Yankees may also be road favorites in sports betting online at the Sbg sportsbook in this game.  New York won five of the nine games at Boston last season.

The Yankees might have the pitching edge in all three games this weekend.  They definitely have it on Sunday with Sabathia against Beckett and even the other two matchups could give them an edge with Hughes taking on Lackey and Nova vs. Buchholz.
