Sports Betting Fans Note New Manager for Baltimore

The Baltimore Orioles have been one of the worst teams vs. the sports betting odds this season but there may be reason for hope in the future as the team hired Buck Showalter to be their manager. The Orioles had the worst record in the league going into Thursday’s Internet sports betting action so Showalter has his work cut out for him.

Sports betting odds list Baltimore as underdogs in almost every game they play.  They are in the midst of their 13th straight losing season. Baltimore fired manager Dave Trembley in early June and they replaced him with interim manager Juan Samuel.

Showalter has a history of turning teams around.  He did it with the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers.  He also put Arizona in position to contend but he was fired just before the Diamondbacks excelled. The next season after Showalter was fired the Diamondbacks won the World Series.

The Orioles are badly in need of a makeover from top to bottom and Showalter is the type of manager who will get everyone on the same page. He is known for fundamentals and details and that is exactly what Baltimore needs. Showalter is 882-833 in 11 years as a Major League manager.

Baltimore has a lot of problems so it may take Showalter some time to start winning. The Orioles don’t have many star players and they have a terrible pitching staff.  Just how bad have the Orioles been this season vs. the sports betting odds?  They were 31-70 going into Thursday’s sports betting action.  They had a bad record at home of 18-33 and a dismal 13-37 record vs. the Internet sports betting odds on the road. They were next to last in the league in runs scored. Luke Scott was leading the team in home runs with 17. The Orioles were 28th in the league in ERA and next to last in strikeouts.  Jeremy Guthrie was leading the team with four wins.

Baltimore has not really been competitive vs. sports betting baseball odds in recent seasons.  It will be up to Showalter to turn the culture around in Baltimore.  The team does have some young talent led by Adam Jones and Nick Markakis but they do have a lot of problems that will take time to solve.
