Chargers Sports Betting Odds Could Suffer with Two Starters Out

The San Diego Chargers are one of the main contenders in sports betting Super Bowl odds for this season. The Chargers may be the favorites in the AFC West and a Super Bowl sports betting online contender but they are going to have to win this season without a number of players that helped them last year.Sports betting odds list San Diego at 12-1 to win the Super Bowl.  The Chargers may be overvalued at that number. They led LaDainian Tomlinson go in the off-season and it now looks like they will be without restricted free agents Vincent Jackson and offensive tackle Marcus McNeill. Neither player signed their tender offers so the Chargers are preparing to play in 2010 without them.

Jackson and McNeill are preparing to hold out until Week 10 of the season unless they are traded or get new deals.  The two players would need to play six weeks to get credit for playing time in their contracts so they could sit out until Week 10. The Chargers have cut both of the players’ salaries since they didn’t sign their tenders.

The loss of one of those two players is big but losing both of them is huge. McNeill is a two-time Pro Bowl left tackle.  He has been doing a great job protecting quarterback Philip Rivers.  Jackson has had two straight seasons with more than 1,000 yards receiving and he has led the league in average yards per catch the past two years. San Diego is hoping that they have done enough in the off-season to replace both players.  They signed wide receiver Josh Reed and tackle Tra Thomas but neither of those players is likely to be Pro-Bowl quality.

The Chargers are a passing team so the loss of these two players will be felt. Jackson was the big play threat for the Chargers in the passing game while McNeill was a rock on the offensive line. Neither player can easily be replaced despite what the Chargers are saying.  San Diego could definitely be due for a fall in sports betting based on all of their off-season losses.  The Chargers open up the regular season on Monday, September 13th as they travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. San Diego could be overvalued as they are laying 5.5 points in that matchup.
