Redskins Sign Grossman but they are still Longshots in Sports Betting

Sports betting NFL odds list the Washington Redskins as longshots to win the Super Bowl but the team has made some changes that should improve their chances. Whether or not signing Rex Grossman was one of them is up for debate but it has gotten some sports betting online attention.

The sports betting numbers at SBG Global have the Redskins behind the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants in the NFC East but things change quickly in the NFL.  Washington hired Mike Shanahan as head coach in the off-season and they are looking to improve their roster.  Bringing in Grossman could put some pressure on current starting quarterback Jason Campbell.  Grossman could do well with Washington since he will be working with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who was with Houston last year.

The sports betting statistics are up and down on Grossman. He has thrown for 6,197 yards in his career with 33 touchdowns.  The problem for Grossman is that he has even more interceptions in his career as he has thrown 36.  Grossman led the Chicago Bears to the Super Bowl just a few years ago but he has not done much since.  He left Chicago as a free agent and spent last year in Houston.

Washington was really bad last season as they fell to 4-12.  Washington was a little better against the sports betting online point spread as they were 6-8-2. The Redskins had all kinds of troubles in the front office and the team simply fell apart.  Shanahan is expected to straighten things out as head coach.  Finding a quarterback that can win would be a major step in the right direction. Many who look at sports betting odds don’t believe that Campbell can ever be that quarterback.  Whether or not Grossman can be that quarterback is also in serious doubt.  Washington was just 26th in the league in points scored last season so they definitely need to improve their offense. They signed running back Larry Johnson in the off-season but how much he has left is another question.

The NFL Draft should provide some clues as to what Washington is thinking for the future. They need a quarterback to lead them for this season and beyond.  If they don’t take a quarterback in the first round then they may have to rely upon Campbell or Grossman and that is not a pleasant thought if you are backing the Redskins.
