Online sports betting had Rachel Alexandra being named Horse of the Year on Tuesday. She is the first filly to win the award since Azeri in 2002.  She was the offshore sports betting winner, beating out Zenyatta.Online sports betting had the voting going 130-99 for Rachel Alexandra for 2009 Horse of the Year. Both horses were unbeaten but voters gave Rachel Alexandra more credit for her wins.

Offshore sports betting had voters for the Horse of the Year coming from the National Turf Writers Association, Daily Racing Form and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. “Rachel and Zenyatta won nine Grade I races,” said Rachel Alexandra owner Jess Jackson, “They conquered four of the best groups of males running last year. If you think about these achievements, separately or collectively, there has never been another year like this for fillies.”

Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta were so dominant in online sports betting that there were no other horses even nominated for the award.  There have only been six other female horses to win the award since the voting began way back in 1936. Those winners were Twilight Tear in 1944, Busher in 1945, Moccasin in 1965, All Along in 1983, Lady’s Secret in 1986 and Azeri in 2002.

Jess Jackson has dominated the Horse of the Year award lately. Offshore sports betting had him as the owner of Curlin who won the award in 2007 and in 2008 and now he has Rachel Alexandra. He did not run Rachel Alexandra in the Breeders’ Cup Classic against Zenyatta because of the track surface at Santa Anita Park. Some people criticized that decision but it looks pretty smart now. The two horses could very well meet in online sports betting horse racing action in 2010.  Zenyatta owner Jerry Moss is hoping the horses do get to race. “Some day we’ll meet and decide at that time” between the horses, Moss said. “I’m looking forward to the encounter.”

Rachel Alexandra had a great online sports betting year.  The horse won more than $2.7 million as offshore sports betting numbers showed and beat the males in the Preakness, the Haskell and the Woodward. Zenyatta earned $3.3 million last online sports betting year but only raced against the males in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. She was the first female to win that race in online sports betting history.
