Sports betting indicated that a great horse race is on the horizon as superstar female horses Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta are scheduled to race on April 9th.The Internet sports betting race will be run at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas and if both horses run it will have a purse of $5 million dollars. Sports betting had the connections of Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta getting together on the date for the race. Both principles are on line and have pledged to me they will enter their horses and race,” Oakland Park owner Charles Cella said. “The date will be Friday, the ninth of April. All other conditions remain the same.”
Jess Jackson, owner of Rachel Alexandra needed the race to be moved back from the original date of April 3rd and Oaklawn finally reached an agreement. “I’ve never had so much trouble giving $5 million away,” Cella said. “We’ve got a solid commitment, assuming, of course, their health continues.” Jerry Moss who is the co-owner of Zenyatta said that the April 9th date would work. “We had a conversation about that today. We’re still hoping the race happens,” said Moss. Zenyatta is set to make her sports betting debut this year in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap on March 13 at Santa Anita. Internet sports betting had her working six furlongs on Thursday at Hollywood Park for trainer John Shirreffs.
Sports betting indicated that the plan for Zenyatta is to race at Santa Anita and then race in the Apple Blossom. “We always go race to race,” Moss said, “We’ll look at our horse after each race and then make a judgment. We’ve got these two races picked out. Beyond that, it would be premature to comment. But our plan, like last year, is to point for the Breeders’ Cup at the end of the year. That’s not a change in our philosophy. Since the Breeders’ Cup this year is at Churchill Downs, we will be traveling.”
Rachel Alexandra has not raced since winning the Woodward Stakes in sports betting at Saratoga last year. A matchup in sports betting between Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra would be exciting and attract some good Internet sports betting attention to horse racing.
