You can pretty much pencil Manchester United into the final of the Champions League after they won 2-0 at Schalke, covering the online sports betting odds at the Sbg sportsbook.
United dominated a match that easily could have turned into a rout if not for the goaltending of Schalke’s Manuel Neuer. Manchester United will now be heavily favored in sports betting in the return leg at Old Trafford next week.
United Dominates Overmatched Schalke
There was no question that the better team was on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals. United simply overwhelmed Schalke and if not for Neuer it would have been a rout. It easily could have been 3-0 or 4-0 at the half but because of Neuer it was scoreless. He robbed countless United players in the first half. Javier Hernandez could easily have had two goals. United peppered Neuer with 12 shots but he stopped them all. Michael Carrick was running all over the field and it was an amazing exhibition for a team that didn’t score a first half goal. Neuer was simply brilliant for Schalke but you knew it couldn’t last. United broke through in the second half when Wayne Rooney hit Ryan Giggs who scored in the 67th minute. It was the 10th career away goal in Champions League action for Griggs. Two minutes later the suspense was over as Rooney converted to make it 2-0. It was Rooney’s 23rd career Champions League goal.
United Looking Ahead
With two away goals it is virtually a certainty that United is going to advance. Schalke would have to pull off a miracle at Old Trafford and that is next to impossible. They would have to score at least two goals and then keep United off the board. It is not going to happen. It would have been tough enough for Schalke just to get a draw on the road at United and now they have to do much more than that. United can now look forward to playing for the title against either Real Madrid or Barcelona. They should get a much stiffer test in online sports betting against either of those two teams. Schalke is simply overmatched in terms of talent all across the board against United except in goal.
