Mickelson a Popular Masters Winner in Sports Betting

Sports betting odds listed Phil Mickelson as the second choice behind Tiger Woods to win the Masters and Mickelson did not disappoint. He started the final round one shot behind Lee Westwood but shot a final round 67 and won the title by three shots over Westwood.  Mickelson went off as the 9-1 second choice behind Woods in online sports betting.

Sports betting odds almost always list Mickelson as a short price because he is a fan favorite.  He has a similar appeal to Tiger and his sports betting odds are oftentimes short.   It was the third Masters championship for Mickelson.  He played in the final group of the day with Westwood and avoided making mistakes.  One of his mistakes could have come at the 13th but he somehow hit a shot over 200 yards from the pine straw over Rae’s Creek and ended up with a birdie.

Lee Westwood started the final round with the lead but he never could get his putter going and made just enough mistakes to give Mickelson an opening.  A late birdie by Westwood at 17 closed the gap but it was not enough to prevent Mickelson from winning.

Tiger Woods was a popular choice as well this week in online sports betting but Tiger was never a factor on Sunday.  It was all or nothing for Tiger on Sunday as he made eagles and birdies to go along with bogeys and a double bogey.  Too many shots for Tiger on Sunday were simply not up to his standard.  Woods started the day four shots back and he never made his patented run.  Woods played with K.J. Choi on all four days and they each shot identical scores each day to finish at 11 under par in a tie for fourth.

A player that did make a run on Sunday in sports betting was Anthony Kim.  He made it up to 12 under par but simply started the day too far back to win the tournament. His 65 got him into contention though and he ended up with a third place finish.

One of the other favorites in sports betting was Ernie Els but he was never a factor.  His lack of success at Augusta has been a mystery. “If it’s not going to happen, it’s not going to happen,” Els said, “What can you do? I’m just beating my head against the wall every time. “I’ve had a good attitude and the game was there (this year). Everything was there. We just don’t gel.”
