McGwire has been coaching hitters outside of the public eye for some time including Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday and leadoff man Skip Schumaker. La Russa said he would have returned even without McGwire. “I would be here if Mark wasn’t the coach,” La Russa said. “The fact that he’s here adds some more fire to the gut.”
Getting La Russa to return is important for the Cardinals in online sport betting since he has led teams to the playoffs eight times.
